Psychotherapy
There is no charge for an initial consultation to discuss psychotherapy;
however, subsequent such sessions will be charged at the ‘Standard Rate’.
Fees will be reviewed each September, with revised fees to be payable from January 1st (thereby allowing time for individuals to withdraw from therapy during the autumn).
The next fee revision will be notified in September 2025, to take effect from 01/01/26.
Fees are set in three categories, based on sessions of 50 minutes:
Discounted Rate: | £70 |
Standard Rate: | £80 |
Concessionary Rate: | By agreement |
Discounted Rate
applies
to clients who:
- Attend psychotherapy weekly;
- Commit to blocks of 5 sessions of psychotherapy;
- Pay in advance (unless arranged otherwise)
- Transfer fees by BACS.
- For clients attending for multiple sessions per week, the Discounted Rate applies to one session per week; subsequent sessions will be charged at 50% of that rate.
Standard Rate
applies
to clients who:
- Prefer regular psychotherapy sessions at fortnightly intervals;
- Wish to have a single psychotherapy consultation;
- Request occasional psychotherapy sessions or a ‘short run’ of sessions;
- Require psychotherapy outside my ‘regular’ hours (e.g. another day of the week);
- Wish to pay by cheque, cash or any method other than by BACS;
- Have their fees paid through a Health Insurance Company or other agency.
- Require formal reports on their progress.
Concessionary
Rate
applies
when:
- 20% of my scheduled sessions are set aside as concessionary rates, for clients who struggle to afford the Discounted Rate;
- The Concessionary Rate is agreed on an individual basis;
- It is expected that the client will contribute something to the session, as this forms part of the commitment to psychotherapy and recognises my expertise and time;
- Concessionary rates may be paid however the client is best able to manage;
- Concessionary sessions are usually already fully committed.
- Clients are reminded that I am a psychotherapist of very high experience; I consider my fees to be modest.
- There are many excellent UKCP Registered psychotherapists – and counsellors registered with BACP – who charge more modest fees. Therapists additionally trained to work online are Registered with ACTO.
Supervision
Supervision is offered from a psychoanalytic theoretical perspective – though my experience as former President of the European Association for Psychotherapy has given me familiarity with several other theoretical backgrounds.
Supervision is normally conducted months, in sessions of 1 or 1.5 hours.
Fees are £80 per hour or £110 for 1.5 hours.
Formal reports are charged at the same rate.

Attendance
Clients/supervisees attending Face-to-Face, online (Zoom or text therapy) are expected to attend on time for each psychotherapy session; Sessions will end at the agreed time, regardless of the start-time.
Clients engaged in (structured) email psychotherapy are expected to send their email by the agreed time.
Breaks or absences will be arranged in advance – by both client and me – preferably at least 2 weeks in advance.
Clients/supervisees cancelling with less than one week’s notice should expect to be charged at 50% of their usual sessional fee.
Other than for unexpected health or emergency situations, clients/supervisees cancelling with less than 24 hours’ notice should expect to be charged the full amount of the session fee.
Holidays
Holidays should be arranged well in advance by both client and me.
Non-Payment of Fees
Sometimes clients may find it difficult to maintain their agreed fee. This should be brought to my attention at the earliest opportunity.
I will endeavour to make it possible for psychotherapy to continue by negotiation.
Clients who are more than four weeks in arrears must discuss this with me and if fees are not paid in full – or there is no agreement otherwise – psychotherapy will be suspended.
After a further four weeks without payment, psychotherapy will be terminated.
Please do contact me if you have any concerns or questions about fees.
